Remastered vs Next-Gen: What Changed?

Compare the 5.x update with next-gen 4.x and prepare an existing character for the new systems.

Reviewed October 4, 2026 · Remastered 5.x

Which version is this guide for?

Remastered is the 5.x update released in September 2026. Next-gen usually refers to the earlier 4.x update; Classic refers to the older 1.32 PC branch. Check your installed version before following a build, mod or console guide.

Complete Edition describes the content package. It is not a reliable way to identify which skill tree or patch a guide uses. Check expansion ownership separately when following Blood and Wine or Hearts of Stone instructions.

Returning-player checklist

  • Allocate your reset skill points before a difficult fight.
  • Select Remastered in the build planner. Historical shared links deliberately retain the older tree.
  • Review settings for weight, durability and loot grouping.
  • Check mod authors’ Remastered compatibility notes.
  • Keep a separate save before experimenting with commands or changing a mod setup.
  • Check account rewards and campaigns through their official claim pages.

Graphics and platform differences

Graphics, animation and platform support also change. Consult CDPR’s platform-specific notes before choosing a preset.

This site does not publish a benchmark-based best-settings preset. Use a repeatable scene when comparing performance, change one option at a time, and check image quality in motion as well as while standing still.

Launch fixes worth checking

The October 1 PC hotfix 5.00c addresses save/load failures involving special characters in the Documents path, audio balance, GOG achievement display, Classic launching and several visual issues. It also rolls back a problematic HairWorks change.

Patch 5.00b covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version, including lighting adjustments and a fix for missing DLSS on that PC version. These are platform-specific notes, not a reason to assume every platform uses the same suffix.
